After I Left, The Twins and Their Father Regretted It

After I Left, The Twins and Their Father Regretted It

After my best friend died,I took care of her husband and twin boys for eleven years.

On their tenth birthday,I accidentally wore my best friend's brooch by mistake and baked them a cake, hoping they’d finally smile at me.

Instead, the cake ended up on my face—right after they spilled hot oil on my arm.

“You killed our mother and now you want to replace her.You shameless woman, you deserve to die!”Ian screamed.

“Yes,this is just the beginning. If you don’t leave,we’ll kill you,”Ace added with a smirk."Only if you die will it be enough to apologize to our dead mother!"

And they meant it.

While I nursed my bruised heart and scarred skin, they pushed me into a pool.

“Just die and never come back,”Ace laughed,high-fiving his brother.

But they weren’t done yet.

Days later, they pointed a gun at me…and pulled the trigger.

In that moment I realized—no matter how much I gave them, they would never love me.

I finally dropped everything, packed up my stuff and left.

However, at the wedding of my remarriage to another man, the twins and their father broke into the wedding scene, begging for my forgiveness and begging me not to marry another man.

——

Faye’s Pov

“I’ll be back in two days to take my rightful place as the heiress. I'll do whatever you want me to do,” I said, gripping the phone tightly.

I paused for a few seconds before I hung up the phone letting out a tired sigh.

“Get out of our house you wicked witch!”

The sharp voice of the twins, Ian and Ace pulled me out of my thoughts as I stared at them glaring at me from the kitchen door.

I let out a quiet sigh, “Happy birthday, sons, make a wish.”

I presented the cake I had spent hours baking for them.

Ian walked up to me and sneered, “I wish for you to get out of our house!”

Then without warning he slammed the cake in my face. I screamed and stumbled backwards while the boys laughed.

Ace brought out his leg, blocking my path and causing me to trip. I fell and the pan of hot oil I had used in frying earlier spilled on my left arm, burning me.

A sharp scream escaped my lips while the boys looked down on me.

“This is just the beginning. If you don't leave immediately you'll regret the next time we see you,” they threatened.

The maid hurriedly arrived at the scene and gasped in shock when she saw me struggling on the floor, face smeared with cake and my left arm red and swelling.

“What have you boys done?” she exclaimed.

The boys shrugged, “She deserved it! She's a witch who killed our mother.”

The boys stomped away while the maid helped me stand up.

“I’m sorry, Faye, I don't know why you keep putting up with them,” she stated.

I managed a small smile as she helped me to my bedroom.

“This balm should help soothe the burns, thankfully it’s not so much and if you apply it daily it will get rid of the scar,” the maid said, giving me a small ointment.

“Thank you,” I mumbled.

After she left I washed off my face as I stared at my red eyes and split lips from the impact of the cake.

I also applied the ointment on my burns, wincing softly as I let out a small sigh.

“What a fool I've been,” I said, sadly.

Eleven years ago I was supposed to marry Gabriel Caldwin but I was involved in a terrible accident on my wedding day.

While I battled for my life, my best friend, Ariel, volunteered to marry my fiance in my place to save him and his family from the embarrassment of the bride not showing up.

When I woke up I found out my fiance was married. When Gabriel found out I didn't run from the wedding but was involved in an accident he felt remorseful.

I told him to divorce Ariel and get married to me since I'm feeling better and he refused.

“Don’t be mean, Faye, Ariel stood in for you to protect our reputation. How do you think it will look to the public if I divorce her immediately?”

“What is going to happen to me then?” I queried.

“Just one year, Faye, then I’ll divorce Ariel and marry you,” Gabriel had promised.

But before the one year was over I got a strange demand.

“Faye, Ariel wants to have a child before she leaves the marriage. It's been her grandparents' lifelong dream and they're dying,” Gabriel said to me.

I frowned, “What does that have to do with me? Why does she want kids when you'll still divorce her?”

“Just oblige her, Faye, she's your best friend and she's been nothing but kind toward you,” Gabriel said.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Ariel can't have kids, she wants you to be her surrogate at least when she leaves you can take care of the kids because they're yours,” Gabriel answered.

I was worried about the request but Gabriel convinced me.

“Don’t worry, Faye, when Ariel leaves we’ll get married and we’ll also have our kids,” he said.

Eventually I agreed to have a child for Gabriel and Ariel but before I could deliver, Ariel died from an accident.

I ended up giving birth to twin boys and Gabriel, still devastated over the loss of Ariel, begged me to take care of the kids.

Two years later and Gabriel hasn't married me. When I asked him he said his wife died and I want him to get married immediately.

“How do you think that would look? People will accuse me of being unfaithful and happy my wife died,” Gabriel said.

“But I’m your wife, Gabriel, I was supposed to marry you,” I stated.

Gabriel sighed, “No one knows that anymore. Just focus on the kids, Faye, we’ll get married soon.”

I focused my energy on taking care of the twins. When it became evident Gabriel had no intention of marrying me I still stayed for the sake of my sons.

But my sons were ungrateful. No one ever told them I was their surrogate mother and they mistreated me so badly.

Eleven years I dedicated myself to raising them. They disrespected and insulted me.

They preferred Lily, their nanny and regarded her as their mother while accusing me of being responsible for Ariel’s death.

Today was the height of it all. I'm done enduring and waiting for them to love me.

Today, I have decided to leave.

Chapter 2

Faye’s Pov

After I ended the call, I took a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart.

I wasn't going to cry. I've done my fair share of that over the past eleven years.

Now was the time to hold my head up high and find Gabriel as I tell him I’m leaving.

I heard the sound of music coming from the hall and I knew the birthday party had started.

Putting on a pink dress I found in the closet, I stepped outside.

As I stepped into the hall, my heart broke into tiny pieces.

Right before me, Gabriel was on his knees, holding out a diamond ring as he presented it toward Lily, the twins' nanny.

“Will you marry me?” he asked her.

Lily chuckled and nodded, “Yes.”

The crowd broke into happy cheers while I watched as the boys hugged Lily, smiling happily.

“Yess, Lily is finally going to be our new mommy,” Ian said.

“I’m so glad it’s not that wicked witch, Faye,” Ace added.

I chuckled and clapped my hands, my action making my presence known.

“Congratulations,” I said.

Gabriel’s eyes widened slightly when he saw me, “Faye, what —”

“Nevermind, I was just passing through. I wanted to inform you that I’m leaving,” I said.

“What is wrong with you, Faye?” Gabriel snapped just as Lily started crying.

“Oh my gosh, Faye, I’m sorry. Please don't leave because of me,” she cried in a pitiful voice.

He grabbed me and tried to drag me out of the hall but I pushed him away.

“Don’t touch me with your filthy hands!” I hissed at him.

“Let’s go somewhere and talk,” Gabriel said.

Suddenly the twins started hitting me furiously, “Wicked woman! You've hurt our mom.”

“That’s enough, children, I’m fine,” Lily said in-between sobs.

But the kids weren't done. Ace ran out of the hall and returned almost immediately holding my most precious possession.

“No!” I exclaimed, my eyes widening as I reached for him.

Ace giggled and let it go.

The deafening sound of my mother’s ashes hitting the floor as the jar broke was enough to drive me insane.

“What have you done?!” I yelled at him.

“If you hurt our new mommy again you'll regret it,” Ian stated.

The guests started murmuring.

“Who is this madwoman?”

“She’s the mistress who’s refused to leave Gabriel for eleven years now.”

“She’s so shameless trying to ruin another woman’s wedding.”

“Lily is so sweet she's even defending her.”

“She’s such a wicked woman.”

“Say whatever you want, I don't care!” I snapped suddenly, startling the gossipers, “These brats —”

“That’s enough, Faye!” Gabriel snapped.

I saw the slap before he raised his hand and I’ll be damned if I let him touch me.

I caught his hand midway and I slapped him twice, as a shocked gasp escaped his lips.

“Go to hell, Gabriel!” I hissed through gritted teeth.

Without waiting for a response, I stormed out of the hall, tears clouding my vision.

I refused to stop because I feared I would break down.

When I walked into the room, my heart felt empty. For ten years I hoped my kids' would love me but now it was clear that there was nothing left for me here.

I grabbed my suitcase and started arranging my clothes inside it.

A few minutes later, the door opened and Gabriel barged in, his eyes red with anger.

“What madness has taken over you, Faye?” he growled at me.

I ignored him as I tossed my shoes into the box. He suddenly grabbed my box and flung it across the room, scattering the things in it.

“Do I have your attention now?” he hissed at me.

I scoffed, “You can have the box and the clothes. In fact, I want nothing from here that has been tainted.”

“Just stop!” he snarled, grabbing my shoulders and shaking me roughly.

“Leave me alone before I break your fucking fingers!” I snapped.

Gabriel looked startled as he stared at me, “What’s gotten into you, Faye? This is unlike you.”

I scoffed bitterly, “Unlike me? You enjoyed it when I listened to every fucking thing you said right? Now I’m fighting back suddenly I’m possessed!”

“Calm down so I can explain what’s happening,” Gabriel snapped.

I knew he was going to tell me another tale but unlike before this time I had no intention of entertaining it.

“Start talking then,” I shrugged.

Gabriel sighed, “I know you're upset which is why I didn't tell you about this. Lily is sick. She has cancer.”

He stared at me, waiting for a reaction but I kept a straight face. I couldn't care less.

“She has a few years to live and she dedicated her time to taking care of the twins,” Gabriel continued, “Now she has two years left and the kids begged me to make her their mom for those two years left so she can die happily.”

I burst into laughter when he was done talking. Gabriel stared at me like I had just lost his senses.

“Your lies have gotten better over the years, Gabriel,” I said.

“It’s not a lie, Faye. It’s just two years,” he said.

I scoffed, “Two years and you'd finally get married to me, right?”

Gabriel sighed, “Yes, once the two years are over we’ll get married. I've already made all the arrangements.”

I stared at Gabriel, “What do you want me to do now?”

Gabriel smiled and kissed my cheeks, “This is why I love you. You're always so understanding. I want you to take care of the twins while I take Lily for her chemotherapy outside the country.”

I nodded and gave him a bright smile, “Alright.”

He kissed my forehead, “I’ll send Lily to come here. You can both apologize and make up.”

Then he turned to me immediately, “Also, I’m sorry about what the kids did. I'll make sure they apologize to you.”

I nodded and watched as he left. The moment he left, I wiped my cheeks and forehead.

“You must think I’m so stupid, Gabriel,” I scoffed.

“But of course you are, Faye, else you'd know that I've been sleeping with Gabriel for the past three years and now I’m pregnant for him.”

I turned to stare at the smug face of Lily.

Chapter 3

Faye’s Pov

I turned to stare at Lily who was smirking.

“What do you want?” I snarled.

I wasn't going to let the fact that she's just announced she's pregnant bother me.

With how Gabriel has acted these eleven years it was clear that he couldn't be trusted and I should expect anything from him.

“I’m supposed to come and apologize to you but I wonder what will happen if they find out you bullied me,” Lily answered.

I scoffed, “I have no interest in bullying you and I’m not interested in your apology.”

I picked up my suitcase and started packing my clothes inside them but Lily wasn't done.

She threw my bedside lamp on the floor and smirked.

“What are you doing?” I queried.

“Watch me,” she grinned.

Then she fell to the floor, placing her hands directly in the place where the broken lamp shards lay.

“What the hell?” I exclaimed, surprised.

“I’m sorry, Faye, it’s my fault. Please hurt me but don't leave the children,” she cried in a loud voice.

“What are you doing?” I queried.

Immediately, the door opened and Gabriel raced into my room with the twins.

His eyes turned red when he saw Lily on the floor bleeding.

“How could you, Faye? I told you she's sick! Have you no sympathy?” he snarled at me.

“I didn't hurt her,” I stated.

“Stop yelling at Faye, it’s not her fault,” Lily cried.

“How dare you hurt our new mommy? Haven't we taught you enough lessons? Why don't you leave already?” The twins insulted me.

Their words barely had an effect on me again as I merely continued packing my box.

“I’m leaving,” I said calmly.

Gabriel grabbed me angrily and before I could pry his hands away he pushed me inside a storage closet.

“Stay here till you see the errors of your ways!” he snarled.

“Let me out of here!” I screamed, banging the door but it was too late.

He locked me in and left. Tears streamed down my cheeks as my chest constricted.

Gabriel knows I hate small spaces. How dare him lock me up!

I tried to calm my racing heart. There was no point crying over them. None of them deserved my love or my tears.

I sat huddled on the floor as I looked around the cramped room.

There was nothing that could help me escape from here.

Towards evening I heard a slight knock on the door. Scrambling toward the door, I grabbed the handle.

“Anyone there? Please unlock the door!” I called out.

I heard silence for a while before Lily’s malicious voice rang out.

“Oh sweet Faye, you've been locked up where you deserve,” she mocked.

I sighed, “What do you want? Are you done putting on a show?”

“Not quite,” she giggled, “I didn't know Gabriel loves me so much that he'd lock you up even though that’s your greatest fear.”

I gritted my teeth in anger. I wouldn't let her see me break.

“If you've got nothing to say then get out,” I snapped.

Lily chuckled, “Oh darling, I’m just starting. But for now I’ll let you enjoy.”

I heard her footsteps depart and I heaved a sigh of relief. Soon it was dark outside.

I touched my hair and I saw my hairpin.

“It’s better than nothing,” I mused.

A few seconds later and I haven't been able to unlock the door.

Suddenly I heard voices outside.

Two. Ian and Ace.

“Let’s teach her a lesson,” Ian said.

“Yes,” Ace giggled excitedly.

A few seconds later, a scream ripped from my throat as I stared at the floor crawling with spiders and bees.

They had thrown in a beehive from the small window at the back.

The spiders bite me and the bees stung me while I cried helplessly.

“Please, somebody! Help me!!” I cried, banging the door.

No one came instead I heard the giggles of the boys.

“Don’t mess with us next time,” they chuckled.

My right eye was swollen as I started working faster on the door while the bees showed me no mercy.

Finally, I got the door open as I screamed running into the courtyard.

The boys glared at me in anger.

“You don't seem to ever learn!” Ace said.

“I think it’s best you never come back,” Ian added.

The boys pushed me and I stumbled losing my balance as I fell into the pool.

I waddled in the pool, “I can't swim. Stop it!”

But they weren't listening to me. As I struggled to stay afloat I saw Ian and Ace bring out something from their bag.

My eyes widened when I saw that each of them had a pistol in his hand.

“Where did you get that—”

However, before I finished speaking, Ian stared at me fiercely, "You vicious woman, do you think you can use the method of leaving to attract our attention? How disgusting!"

"You should die here today and apologize to my dead mother!" Ace spoke with a distorted expression.

They simultaneously raised their guns, aimed at me, and pulled the trigger.

The bullet flew towards my heart at a high speed.

Welcome!
