After I Died from Cancer

《After I Died from Cancer, the Cheating Husband Died in the Fire》

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I took my medical records and immediately went to find my husband, Simon Pierce as I wanted to discuss the details of my funeral arrangements.

But I saw with my own eyes that he pressed a young secretary on his desk, engaging in intimate interactions repeatedly.

Nearby, a security guard on his patrol sighed.

"Everyone has their fate, indeed. Still, hundreds of college graduates came for interviews, but Mr. Pierce kept only this intern. he also bought her an expensive mansion near the company!"

"Imagine that. That’s a blessing others can only dream of."

I glanced at her face. Her features bore a faint resemblance to mine.

I let out a hollow murmur, "What a blessing indeed."

After leaving the building, I made a phone call to confirm the arrangement for my whole body donation.

From this moment on, I, Lily Caldwell, no longer existed.

——

For hours, I wandered aimlessly along the roadside.

It was late evening by the time I returned home, but even before I entered the building, I heard his voice.

"Didn’t I tell you to keep an eye on Lily at all times? How could you lose track of her again?"

"If something happens to her, are you prepared to take responsibility?"

I could picture the scene already. Simon could not find me and his anger was directed at the servants as always.

I immediately made my way upstairs.

When the housekeeper, who was standing amidst the scattered stuff in the house, caught sight of me, her expression shifted as though a savior had finally appeared.

"Madam, you’re finally back! Sir was furious when he came home and didn’t see you. He almost tore the house apart."

"Now that he’s angry, only you can calm him down."

Without waiting for my response, the housekeeper all but pushed me toward Simon’s study.

The moment I stepped inside, I saw Simon seated at his desk. His long fingers tapped the phone screen swiftly, his lips curling into a barely contained smile.

I did not even need to guess who he was talking to.

Sensing someone’s presence, he looked up abruptly. When his eyes met mine, the smile vanished instantly. He turned his phone face down on the desk, his frown deepening with annoyance.

"Lily, where have you been? Why are you back so late?"

"Have you forgotten? We’re attending the birthday party of the richest family in this country tonight?"

The light in his eyes dimmed further, leaving only a dull frustration. That was precisely the expression I had grown all too accustomed to recently.

I said nothing. The assistant standing by the door handed me a dark green velvet evening dress. I accepted it and walked into the room to change.

When I stepped back out, Simon’s gaze lingered on me for longer than expected.

Admiration flickered briefly in his eyes and it had been years since I had seen him look at me like that.

Since Simon started his business, I had never applied any makeup. Also, my wardrobe had been reduced to shirts and plain sportswear.

It had been over ten years since I last wore anything so luxurious.

"This velvet evening dress suits my beautiful wife perfectly. You look just like a wealthy lady straight out of a novel."

The assistant then chimed in, praising me.

"Of course, that’s all thanks to your impeccable taste, Mr. Pierce. Whether it’s business or the women, you always choose the very best."

"But, if Mrs. Pierce gained just a little weight, it would be perfect. The waist of this dress seems a little loose," the assistant continued.

It was only then that I noticed that this evening dress, which was supposed to hug my figure perfectly, now hung loosely around me. The waistline was now two sizes too big. I guessed it was due to the weight had lost because of the cancer.

Upon hearing this, Simon’s gaze fell on my waist.

The relaxed ease in his expression vanished as he frowned slightly, "What’s wrong with this store? I’ll have them send someone over immediately to fix it."

Without wasting a second, he reached for his phone and was about to make a call, but I stopped him.

"I’ve been losing weight lately and they probably didn’t have time to keep up with my size."

"The birthday party is more important. We shouldn’t waste time on something so trivial."

At my words, a flicker of anxiety flashed across his features.

"You’re in your early thirties, Lily. Why are you trying to imitate those young girls, starving yourself just to lose weight? If bad things happen to your body, do you think I won’t worry myself to death?"

Chapter 2

"I got it. You’re saying this because you don’t want to cause trouble for the store, right?"

"That’s just like you… always so considerate."

He fixed my collar with a distressed look on his face but was stunned when he raised his head.

"Lily, after the party, go and have this mole removed."

I was stunned. For a moment, I thought I had misheard him.

Simon noticed my confusion.

He spoke again, "There’s a new troublemaker in the office lately. She has a mole right in the same place as yours. Every time I see it, I think of her."

"I already have enough headaches at work, Lily. I don’t want to be reminded of those things once I get home. So, get rid of it."

He explained carefully.

Afraid that I would not believe him, Simon went on to emphasize the so-called misfortunes that had befallen Serena Yates.

His words were as nauseating as they were ridiculous.

Yet, when he mentioned her, the affection in his eyes poured out without restraint.

My heart twisted painfully.

I could not help but think back to when we first met. Simon once told me that he had dreamed of a beautiful woman with a mole under her eye.

That was why, when he saw me, he chased after me so desperately.

And when we finally became a couple, we even went to a tattoo shop together to ink matching tear moles onto our skin.

But now, for the sake of another woman, he wanted me to remove this mole.

Simon continued his explanation nonchalantly.

I did not want to hear it anymore. Not the excuses, not the sweet stories he tried to downplay.

Before he could finish his sentence, I cut him off with a cold "Okay."

I was going to die soon, after all. What difference did a mole make?

Even if he asked me to give up my status as Mrs. Pierce right at this moment, I would probably agree without hesitation.

The birthday party was packed and the venue was bustling with people. As soon as we entered the venue, Simon was called away by a phone call.

Surrounded by strangers, I could not help but feel a little anxious.

"Hey, where did this beauty come from? Did she lose her way after being abandoned by her sugar daddy?"

"I am the wife of the CEO of the Pierce Group, not some cheap woman. Stay away from me!" I lifted my hand to show them the diamond ring on my finger, as I explained to them.

After saying that, I turned, hoping to leave this spot quickly.

However, the man leaned over as his gaze fell on the diamond ring in my hand. Suddenly, he let out a mocking laugh.

"Beautiful, why don’t you at least prepare a better lie before you speak?"

"Simon Pierce is the big boss of a top-tier company and you? Look at that rock on your finger. It’s bigger than my whole nose! And you’ve got the audacity to call yourself Mr. Pierce’s wife?"

Before I could react, he reached for my wrist, yanking me forward as though to drag me into the shadows.

"Are you out of your mind? I am Mr. Pierce’s wife!"

"Don’t you dare treat me like this? He’ll never let you go once he gets back!"

I writhed and pulled, but my strength was no match for his, so I could not resist him.

The man’s face darkened with irritation. His free hand landed a slap across my cheek. "Mr. Pierce? He’s so affectionate with his wife, isn’t he? If you’re Mrs. Pierce, then who’s that?"

Still gripping me tightly, he turned my head toward the banquet hall.

In the banquet hall full of people, Simon wrapped his arms intimately around Serena’s waist. Holding a champagne glass, he walked through the sea of influential figures in the hall.

They looked every bit like a young married couple.

My eyes widened in disbelief.

Only then did I realize who called Simon away from me.

"Do you see now? That is Mr. Pierce’s real wife."

Chapter 3

"They even wear matching dresses, so who are you?"

I stared desperately at the couples in dark blue dress and suit in the hall. I wanted to call for help but found my voice stuck in my throat.

A mouthful of blood spurted onto the ground and before I knew it, I was being dragged into the darkness by the man .

When the black cloth was lifted from my head, I found myself tied up in a dark room and the person standing in front of me was Serena Yates.

"Have you lost your mind, Serena?"

"If Simon finds out you tied me up like this, you’ll bear the consequences!"

I struggled and screamed, but she only laughed. "Lily Caldwell, you really think you’re still the one he cares about?"

"Without his permission, do you think I’d be bold enough to kidnap you?"

"Believe it or not, even if he knew about this, he would only feel sorry for me for working this hard for him."

My eyes widened. My heart sank as I realized it was Simon’s approval that she dared to do this.

Serena saw my shock and laughed again.

After showing a cruel smile, she seized my chin and held it steady.

The cold blade of a knife pressed against the tear mole under my eye. "I’ve always wondered why everyone says I look like you. It’s because of this mole, I see."

"But that won't matter anymore, not after today."

"Stay still. A wrong move and you’ll lose your eye along with the mole."

Serena's laughter echoed through the room.

I closed my eyes in fear, feeling the cold tip of the knife press against my skin bit by bit.

She carved away a piece of flesh, leaving a trail of warm blood behind.

When I finally dared to open my eyes, I met Serena's gaze, filled with a twisted sense of satisfaction.

"Without this mole, I’ll be the only one in Simon’s heart from now on!"

After that, she left with everyone.

I fell to my knees, feeling the warmth of my own blood mixed with tears as they hit the ground in small, red droplets. Each one a bloom on the floor.

I could not understand why this was happening.

Was this really what Simon wanted?

I took a deep breath.

I endured the pain as I groped my way along the dim light.

Not long after, I finally found a gap, pushing through and emerging directly into the center of the ballroom.

"Ahhh!"

The guests recoiled in shock as they saw me covered in blood and mud. They screamed and their eyes widened with fear.

They immediately surrounded me like I was a stranger to them.

"Oh my god, what’s going on? Why would something like this come out of the richest man’s basement?"

"Who are you? Why are you here?"

"Look at her face. It’s disfigured. God, she’s covered in blood, it’s terrifying."

Blinded by the bright lights, I shielded my eyes, but some faces in the crowd recognized me despite my condition.

"Isn’t that Mrs. Pierce? What’s she doing here?"

"And why does she look like a mess..."

As soon as the words were spoken, the room erupted into hushed whispers.

"How could she be Mr. Pierce’s wife? I just saw him following his wife, looking for someone."

"That’s Mr. Pierce’s secretary, not his wife!"

"But they were together, looking so close as if they were a couple..."

The man stopped talking mid-sentence.

He exchanged a look with the person across from him as if realizing the truth for the first time.

There was an unmistakable look of pity in his eyes as he stared at me.

I felt dizzy, my whole body aching from the effects of cancer and it numbed me further.

Just then, someone in the crowd suddenly shouted, "Mr. Pierce is here."

Instantly, the crowd parted, clearing a path for Simon Pierce.

He walked through in shiny leather shoes and finally stopped directly in front of me.

"Lily Caldwell, why did you do this to me?" Simon’s voice was tight with frustration as he looked at me with disdain.

Behind him, Serena appeared, seemingly fresh from the basement where she was supposed to be.

"Mrs. Pierce, why are you here?"

"I know you misunderstood something because you saw me with Mr. Pierce, but you can’t just jump to conclusions."

"The guests here are allowed to enter and leave the mansion freely, I know that, but wandering into other people’s houses is a different matter altogether."

"I won’t argue if you don't care about your own safety, but at least you have to care about Mr. Pierce's reputation, don't you think?"

Simon’s expression grew darker with each word Serena spoke.

Before I could respond, he spoke first, "You're really embarrassing me."

Then, she pulled Serena away, leaving me alone in the crowd.

Watching his leaving figure, I tried to call out to him. But as soon as I opened my mouth, blood poured out.

Welcome!
