Divorced My Ex, Married Mystery Husband

Divorced My Ex, Married Mystery Husband

My fingers clenched around the file in my hand—the medical report I had brought to surprise Henry. It confirmed two things: one, my body had started adapting to the artificial heart that had once rejected me and now I could see and hear after three long painful years. And two, I was finally pregnant.

The happiest moment of my life had lasted mere minutes. And now, standing outside Henry’s office, the world I had built in my mind was crumbling before I could even step inside.

“How long do you think you can hide it before Giselle finds out the truth? You killed Giselle’s parents and her brother, you ruined her entire family, and now you’re dating with the woman(Sierra )you gave Giselle’s heart transplant to—Four years ago, Gisele's ex-fiance even dumped her for Sierra on their wedding day! It’s too much, Henry.”

Joe’s voice rang through the hallway like a thunderclap, shaking me to my core.I froze outside Henry’s office, my hand hovering over the door handle. The soft smile I had worn all morning slipped away, replaced by a creeping sense of dread.

“And how will she know, Joe? You wanna go tell her?”

Joe’s response was laced with anger. “I just feel this isn’t fair to Giselle. You’ve done enough damage to her already, and this—this is unforgivable.”

Henry scoffed. “She doesn’t know anything. After she donated her heart and received an artificial heart, she became deaf and blind!”

“She’s just a pathetic woman,” Henry continued, his tone dripping with disdain. “Marrying her is the greatest honor I could ever give her.”

“I paid her back, Joe! Marrying a miserable blind and deaf girl for three years isn’t a piece of cake. Sierra needed a heart transplant, or she would have died. Her parents were old, and they didn’t need the heart. I tried to get her brother an artificial one—it’s not my fault he didn’t survive. So don’t stand there and fucking blame me. I only married her to be close to her cousin!”

The word sliced through me like a jagged blade, twisting deep into my chest.

It turns out that our marriage was just a lie he carefully woven.

——

Four years ago, my life had collapsed in front of an audience. I had stood at the altar, waiting for Kieran Lowell—one of London’s most sought-after bachelors—to become my husband.

Instead, he had abandoned me.

He had left me humiliated, broken, as he live-streamed his wedding to my cousin, Sierra Henderson—his first love.

I had barely been able to breathe through the pain of that betrayal when Henry Reeds had stepped forward, in front of everyone.

“I’ll marry you, Giselle,” he had said. “Please, grant me the honor.”

I had run. I had run from the church, from the laughter, from the pitying stares.

But Henry had followed me. For three months, he had pursued me relentlessly. Women envied me for catching the eye of one of London’s wealthiest bachelors. I should have been grateful.

But I hadn’t said yes for love.

I had said yes because my parents had collapsed from the shock of Kieran’s betrayal.

They had fallen into a coma. The doctors had warned me—if they didn’t receive heart transplants, they wouldn’t survive.

And Henry had been there, he had promised to save them.

I had given my heart—literally—to save them. My brother had done the same. Henry had paid for our artificial hearts.

But when I woke up, I was alone.

The doctors told me my parents hadn’t survived. Neither had my brother. The artificial heart had rejected him.

I had been the only one left. Blind. Deaf. Grieving.

And Henry had been my salvation. He had stayed by my side, treated me like a queen. Loved me.

Now, as I stood outside his office, listening to his voice, I realized I had been nothing more than a pawn in his twisted game.

A sharp, piercing pain shot through my chest as I pressed a trembling hand to my stomach.

He had killed my family. He had destroyed my life. And then he had married me—out of obligation, out of convenience, out of love for Sierra.

I clamped a hand over my mouth, my sobs threatening to escape. The man I had called my husband had never loved me. He had never even seen me as a person.

My feet barely touched the ground as I rushed through the building, my body running on instinct.

I raised a trembling hand, hailing the first cab I could find.

The driver barely glanced at me as I slid inside, my entire body shaking.

“Where to, ma’am?” he asked.

My lips parted, but no sound came. My throat was raw, my lungs burning. My fingers curled around my stomach.

For a moment, I hesitated.

Then, with a deep, shuddering breath, I whispered the only destination that made sense.

“General Register Office.”

Henry had used me and manipulated me, now I would pay him back in his own coin. I would cancel my identity and make them pay!

Chapter 2

Giselle’s Pov

The cab came to a stop in front of the London General Register office and I stumbled into the building as I tried to get a grip but it was impossible. For three years I suffered with deafness and blindness while Henry was the cause and I loved him.

My heart broke at that thought as I sniffled, wiping the snoot off my nose.

I went to the registrar office.

I walked into the office and sat down before the woman who stared at me worriedly.

“How may I help you?” she asked.

“I’d like to cancel my identity, passports, IDs, licenses, everything. I want it to be like I never existed,” I said.

The woman frowned, “May I ask why?”

I opened my mouth to speak and a strangled sob escaped my throat as I bit the insides of my cheeks to keep the tears at bay but there was no stopping it.

“I… my husband… everyone… they lied… my family… Dead…” I stuttered out incoherent words in between my sobs.

The woman nodded, “Are you certain you want to disappear?”

I nodded, “It’s what I want.”

“Fine. We’ll process it in one week then you can come back,” she stated.

I smiled gratefully at her, “Thank you so much.”

Then I left her office and went to the bank to empty my account. Over the past three years Henry has been putting a specific amount of money in my account. I calculated it and was glad it was enough for the rest of my plans.

Then I ordered a cab and went back home. When I arrived I noticed how the house was in disarray while the staff were outside. Then I saw Henry’s car.

“Young Madam!” one of the staff cried when she saw me.

I didn't blink, I just stared at her. I had decided that for the remainder of the week I will keep acting deaf and blind.

“What’s going on?” I asked her, pretending to reach out to her.

She grasped my hand, “You left the house without our knowledge. Young Master is very furious and worried. But of course you can't hear me.”

I didn't reply because they thought I’m still deaf. She led me inside and I saw Henry sitting with Sierra. He sighed when he saw me, standing up to hug me. I felt repulsed.

“Why did you leave home alone? Where did you go?” he queried.

I just let him hug me without replying. He pulled away and sighed.

“It’s very exhausting to speak to you when you can't hear or see,” he groaned.

Then he turned to the staff, “Take her inside and get her ready. She's going with me to the office party tonight.”

I let the staff lead me inside while I watched as Sierra stood up and boldly kissed my husband before the staff. I resisted the urge to scoff, so everybody knew he was cheating on me with my cousin except me.

I tried not to dwell on it as the staff dressed me up while I heard Henry and Sierra’s giggles from the sitting room. He was showering her with compliments.

For three years I’d been a fool while Henry cheated and slept with my cousin under my nose. I held back a tear but it was impossible and soon I was crying again ruining the makeup.

“What’s wrong, Mistress?” she queried.

I didn't speak because I wasn't supposed to hear her. Instead I let her redo my makeup until it was perfect again then she led me downstairs.

“She’s beautiful despite her shortcomings,” Sierra giggled.

Henry chuckled and nodded, “Yeah she is but she's nothing compared to you,” he said and kissed her again.

I stood watching them as they around before me unaware that I could see and hear everything. A bitter smile made its way to my face before Sierra spoke.

“Why does she have to come with us? It’s not like she can hear anything or see what’s happening.”

Chapter 3

Giselle’s Pov

“Let her be, Sierra, she's still my wife and we have to keep up with appearances,” Henry’s voice sounded to Sierra’s complaint.

I would have felt relieved that he defended me if I didn't know what he had been doing for the past three years. I curled my lips in disgust, I hated them so much.

Sierra walked up to me with a smirk and flicked her fingers in my face. I kept a neutral expression careful not to blink.

“Who knows what she's thinking about now,” Sierra smirked.

Henry chuckled as he held her waist, “Leave her alone, Sierra.”

Then he glanced at the maid, “Take her to the car.”

Sierra pouted, tugging at his shirt immediately, “No! Let her ride in the other car with the driver. I wanna ride with you.”

Henry grinned and kissed her again. Every second spent with them felt nerve-racking. I wanted to scream and hurl anything I could lay my hands on them but I remained composed.

“Anything for you babe,” he smiled at her before turning to the maid, “Take her to the driver’s car.”

I was taken downstairs to ride in a small car while Sierra relaxed in the luxurious limousine as it pulled out of the driveway.

I was happy at least I didn't have to pretend to be blind and deaf while I watched everything they did.

We arrived at the hotel where the party was being held. I think it was an annual thing but I had no idea because the last three years of my life have been a delusional bliss.

The driver led me inside while Henry walked in with Sierra. I noticed how everyone who didn't know Henry mistook Sierra for his wife despite the fact that I was on the same table with them and Henry made no effort to correct them.

The party started in full swing and soon Henry was being called to the stage to give a speech. Surprisingly he walked up the podium with me.

“I want to thank everyone for this lovely award,” Henry said smiling, “I’d like to acknowledge someone who’s been beside me despite everything. She's been a pillar of support, she's been my best friend and my everything.”

My heart softened a bit at his words. Despite everything a part of me wanted to believe that the past three years meant something to him and for him to be confessing this on a stage filled with people — my thoughts came to a screeching halt when I heard his next words.

“Sierra Henderson, she's the woman who made me the man I am today. She taught me how to be a great businessman. Please come up on the stage, Sierra,” Henry finished as the crowd started clapping while Sierra smirked and joined him on the stage while I stayed behind them like a maid.

A bitter chuckle escaped my lips, who was I fooling? For me to think that Henry was going to acknowledge me before all these people. Truly I was delusional.

Sierra started talking and appreciating Henry for being a good businessman and for attributing it to her when I noticed she was stepping back toward me clearly intent on doing some damage.

I subtly stepped out of the way just as Sierra took a final step and missed. With hands flailing she let out a terrified scream as she almost fell off the podium while I remained standing until she grabbed my dress and we were both falling.

I let out a scream as I heard a groan beneath us and the well-decorated podium gave way beneath us.

“Henry, help!” I screamed before I could stop myself.

“Henry!” Sierra’s pathetic voice sounded.

I was barely hanging onto the railings for my dear life as chaos erupted in the party. In the chaos, the champagne tower that had been arranged someone bumped into it.

I screamed, shielding my face as the glasses came towering toward me. I felt a sharp sting and cuts all over my body. The pain was so much I passed out.

The next time I opened my eyes I was staring at the white walls in the hospital and listening to the steady sound of EKG. My entire body hurt and I had bandages wrapped around various parts of my body including my head. I tried to sit up but I groaned as my stomach hurt like hell.

Then I heard voices outside the door. I knew those voices. One belonged to Henry and the second belonged to our family doctor. I had come to see her a few days ago.

“If Giselle had been rescued on time she wouldn't have lost her baby,” the doctor was saying.

I felt a sharp pain in my heart as I touched my aching stomach and tears formed in my heart. I could vividly recall calling out to Henry but he ignored me and rushed to save Sierra first.

“I didn't know she was pregnant, doctor, Sierra is also pregnant. I couldn't just leave her. Besides, Giselle is deaf and blind she can't take care of a baby so maybe this is a good thing,” Henry stated.

My heart ached more at his words, Henry would never stop surprising me.

Chapter 4

“How can you say that, sir? Giselle is your wife and she's —”

Henry interrupted the doctor sharply, “She’s a fucking burden. Think more about what having a body would cause. I don't want the loss of her pregnancy to be added in the official report.”

“But Sir, it's wrong and unethical. I could —”

“You seem to forget how indebted you are to my family, Doctor,” Henry cut in sharply.

The woman took in a deep breath and sighed, “Of course. I'll do whatever you want. I just need to check on her now.”

“Alright. Do that so you can come check how Sierra and the baby are doing. We wanna do a sonography,” Henry stated excitedly.

For someone who his wife had just lost their first child he didn't seem heartbroken. At least he should feign being hurt for my sake but it was almost like he could give two fucks about me.

I heard footsteps and soon the doctor entered the room, a sympathetic look in her eyes.

“Mrs. Reeds, you're awake,” she said, surprised.

“Just Giselle is fine,” I corrected her.

She studied me for sometime and sighed, “Why didn't you tell him you've recovered and you're pregnant?”

I chuckled sadly, “You almost told him just now but he wasn't interested in hearing anything about me all he cared about is Sierra.”

The doctor sighed, “I guess you already know you lost the baby.”

I nodded, wiping off a stray tear, “I suppose it’s for the best. This way I won’t have any connection with him.”

“How are you feeling?” she asked.

“I know I’m hurt but the pain is nothing compared to how I've been feeling. Every word is like a constant knife stab to my chest,” I answered bitterly.

The doctor sighed, “I’m indebted to your husband’s family. But even I wouldn't want to be in your position. Your husband hasn't been faithful all through the entire years of your marriage. The whole of London knows he's flirting with Sierra.”

“What’s her husband saying?” I chuckled bitterly.

“Her husband isn't in London. He doesn't know what his wife has been up to,” the doctor answered.

Then a question came to my mind and I found myself dreading the answer but I needed to know.

“Sierra is pregnant, do you know if it’s Henry’s child?” I asked, my voice quivering at the end.

The doctor sighed, “I’ve been able to arrange for the surgery. I found a donor and it’s a perfect match. I don't think you need to worry about anything now.”

When she didn't answer me and changed the subject instead but I could see the sadness in her eyes I knew the answer.

I hardened my face and nodded, “How long do you think it will take for me to recover enough to travel?”

“About a week.”

“Let’s do it,” I agreed.

I was in the hospital for a week and Henry barely visited me. He'd tell the doctor I was blind so I had no idea who visited or not.

He focused all his attention on Sierra and it gave me the time to heal and recover. The day I was discharged I went to the Register office and signed some documents to confirm the cancellation of my identity.

I bought a red gift box and placed a gift inside it. Writing a small note: Happy Four Years Anniversary, Henry. Enjoy the rest of your life with Sierra and your unborn baby. Then I placed the note on the table as I stared at the date on the calendar.

A bitter smile graced my lips, today was our fourth wedding anniversary and Henry didn't even seem to remember. He was busy running around for his married lover.

I dragged my suitcase out of the home, and this time, I left this horrible life and nightmarish marriage of lies behind me!

——

A few hours later, Henry returned home with a nervous look on his face.

“Where is she? Where's my wife?” he demanded from the staff.

They stared at him like he had gone crazy, “She’s gone, sir.”

Henry frowned, he didn't understand what they meant. “Gone to where? She can't see or hear.”

“Actually, Sir, Young Mistress can see and hear clearly. We all watched as she dragged her suitcase and entered a cab,” one of the staff said while the others nodded.

Henry’s face crumpled in an instant, his heart beating loudly in his chest.

He found it hard to believe.

“What nonsense are you spewing? Giselle is an invalid,” he snapped.

He had arrived home from Sierra’s place to bring his wife flowers when he remembered today was their anniversary. He stormed upstairs and realized Giselle had cleaned out her entire closet.

“No…” he mumbled, then his eyes fell upon the neatly tied box. He picked the note tapped on it and read, his eyes widening.

“How… how does she know about Sierra?” he mumbled.

His shaky hands opened the box and he gasped. Written boldly inside with a red marker were the words, Happy Anniversary, Hubby, and sitting inside the box was the artificial heart he had paid for Giselle.

“No!” he gasped, collapsing.
